This portrait of the photographer was taken by Sir Harry Secombe during the session I had with him at Police Headquarters, Auckland, New Zealand. A keen photographer himself, Sir Harry had his Nikon with him at the time. Half way through the session he interrupted me and asked, "Here, boyo,is your mother still living in Caerphilly?" I answered in the affirmative and he hopped off the stool and placed me in position, taking a number of shots. He told me that he would send my mother a copy when he got back to the UK. Some weeks later I received a tear-stained letter from my mother, together with the 35 mm slide. He had written to her and extolled the virtues of her son, "exiled to the colonies." Sir Harry was a fellow-Welshman and his brother had been the vicar of a local parish. A man idolised in Wales, Sir Harry never lost his roots or the common touch.
