The reasoning for tearing down the park was that when the stadium was built, the owners of Opryland (Gaylord Corp) wanted their name on the stadium. The stipulation as I understood it was they got their name on it or they would tear down the park...and that is what they did. I truly miss Opryland....lots of great memories from there from my childhood.

I'm a New Yorker, just got back from my first visit to Tennessee... Loved it. Especially the Opry Mills Mall... Want to pack up from NY and go forever to Tenn. MPS-Brooklyn, NY

I loved Opryland too, I remember growing up as a child my mom & dad would buy a family season pass & they would take my brother & I to every sunday untill the park opened for the summer & then my mom would take us almost every day. When my brother turned 13 my mom bought him hi own season pass, she'd drop him & his friends off & they would spend the whole day riding rides over & over & screaming until the almost lost their voice. I couldn't wait till I turned 13 so I could be dropped off with my friends & spend the whold day riding rides & seeing all the shows especially the 50's one that show was o1 of our favorites & we also loved I Hear America Singing it was an inside show & it was air conditioned & it got real hot suring the summer, we would ride the Logg Ride over & over just so we could get wet & the when they built the Grissly River Rampage we ride that over & over too, I loved the Wall Bash Cannon Ball & the Tin Lizzy's, yeah I miss Opryland & I wish it was still there because I would be there right now instead of at work. I am once again going to Nashville this summer after school gets out. but this time i am going with my friend Kaitlyn. i am looking forward to going back there. the mall was the absolute best. i created my own cd and you cant even tell its me singing. haha. nashville is an amazing place. i absoltely LOVE it. ohh and thanks for the pictures. there amazing and really show what alot of the mall is about. =D

i can not wait until June 15th. my parents, brother, my BEST friend Meme and I are leaving to drive to Nashville for 3 nights! I cant wait. if Meme wasnt going with me it would probably be the most boring vacation ever. i am so glad me and Meme are friends. She is the best and we are both looking forward to having the time of our lives. I love you meme! NASHVILLE HERE WE COME!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember all the good times at the opryland park. Nashville is just not the same since they tore it down. It breaks my heart every time I visit and go to the mall. It's just not the same. And what makes it worse is seeing parts of the grizzly ride that are still visible onsight. Can't understand why you could take the fun out of something and pave a parking lot over it!!! No matter what is built in it's place, nothing and I mean absolutely nothing will take the place of Opryland!!!!

Yes, Opryland USA was a truly amazing place. I went there every year as a child, and only wish that I could take my children there. I don't see the reasoning behind doing away with the theme park, and I never will, because no matter what they put at the Opry Mills Mall, they will just NEVER be able to reproduce the fun and excitement of the theme park. It was one of those lost treasures that is irreplacable... It makes me sad just to think about it. I will still travel from my home in Western Kentucky (just not as frequently) to visit the mall, but it's not the same...

Hi, We were there on July 12 and it is incredible! We spent the entire day and still did not cover it all! I am very impressed!! Can't wait to go back! Pleased from Vermont!

These are very good pictures.I went to opryland when it was a theme park.I do have to say that i can not understand how they could have done something so stupid.They tore down the park which was the only real family place to go in nashville just to build another mall.That to me is just crazy.

We were there a week ago, we loved it! Very cool mall. As this was our first visit to Nashville we had never seen the Theme park.

I was in Nashville last week and I think the Opry Mills Mall is AMAZING!!! This was my first time to Nashville so I didn't get to see the Theme Park which I've heard was awesome! But I would like to say this is the coolest mall I've ever seen!

I agree with you Coleen. I miss opryland so much. We live in West Tennessee and would take my daughters as they were growing up at least 3 times a year. It was a great place for church groups to go. I couldn't believe they tore it down. It was unbelievable!

I loved this place! I miss it so much. I've moved to Alaska and been here for two years now. Opry Mills mall was an every weekend get-a-way for my husband and I when we lived in Hermitage. I'm hoping to return back to Nashville soon to re-live those fun days before the kids came along. Great pictures and keep up the good work!

These are very nice pictures of Opry Mills, but until my dying day I will not understand how anyone could have torn the Opryland USA Theme Park down just to build another shopping mall. That was a beautiful & fun place. With great entertainment. The park was NOT losing money. Tourist to Nashville has decreased very much. What is there now for a family with children to do?
