Nashvilles historic polar bear with snowballs

Nashville's historic polar bear with snowballs

One of Nashville’s landmarks is its incarnation of the “Germantown Bears,” brothers of the bear pair formerly known as the Edgehill Bears.

For years, zoologists have informed the world that polar bears are left-handed. Nashvillians know better. Each bear is throwing the snowball with its right paw. Their pitching style is similar to that of the late Don Drysdale, a former Los Angeles Dodger great. What the bears lack in pitching mechanics, they overcome with style and grace. Their original residence was the Zema Hill Funeral Home, which became Patton Funeral Home in 1952.

Michael Emrick is the current owner of two of the bears, while the Edgehill brothers are destined for placement in a neighborhood park, hopefully near their family members. The Germantown Bears can be seen at 1229 Sixth Ave. N.
