Malta: a mid-Mediterranean jewel

Between June 1 and June 4, 2007, I visited Malta with my wife to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. This was the second time I visited this tiny mid-Mediterranean country. Since my first visit, in October 1993, many things have changed - not necessarily for the best. Over-development of the land (for tourism purposes), heavy traffic, environmental abuse and a notable decline in the sense of the once intact medieval atmosphere throughout the island, characterise Malta as an EU member in the 21st century.

Still, Malta retains a good deal of the reflection of its deep history and remains a beloved travel destination for me - and moreover, a photographic paradise. This gallery is divided into three subgalleries; one comprises pictures from all over the island, one is devoted to Mdina (the ancient capital of Malta), while the third one deals with a modern tourist attraction by itself - the Maltese buses.
