Dennis, the silver based photography is indeed called argentic photography. The term is today more frequently used to make the difference between argentic and digital. Before digital appeared nobody used the term since all photosystems where argentic anyway.
A good PS plugin to produce grain in the desired strength and grain size is "Grain surgery". The plugin makes real miracles in b&w grain addition. Note that the grain allways needs to be added on the colour photo before you turn it to grayscale.
Lou, Thanks for the pointer on adding grain for the b&w. "Argentic" - had never heard that term before, but it's perfect to describe film (silver based) photography. Now, we need a similarly arcane term for digital (bit based) photography - bittish? bitty? bigenic? :)
Both pictures are nice, the b&w looks a bit too digital. You should add some grain or noise prior to convert to grayscale, makes it look more argentic. Shooting beyond 800 iso brings a good noise to a picture to make b&w.
Seems the Nikon likes your eyes since she focused quite well on them. Good balance in the lights on this one as well.
