1/2/05 - Nostalgia?

I started college in 1965, and one of the first things I wanted, since I looked silly in beads, was a lava lamp for Christmas. I got a tie-dyed shirt. In short, I went through the sixties and seventies without a lava lamp, and I never wore that stupid shirt. For some reason, I thought about this silliness and decided to get one of those damn lamps. It didn't take long to find a place on the web, so I ordered up my own Christmas present (although my D70 and subsequent gear were supposed to be my Birthday *and* Christmas presents). Anyway, it came the other day, so ... PAD. Looks like a bunch of egg yolks in purple stuff. I'm feeling sleepy ...

PS - Photo taken with black surface and background. Crop. Select the glass and the metal parts for separate adjustment. Tweaked the contrast and saturation of the colored part. Tweaked contrast and brightness so the base and cap didn't disappear. Frame and sign.

My first Lava Lamp was purchased as a young man in probably 1967 or 68. I’ve had several over the years (Don’t SHAKE them when they’re hot!) and now have a nice black one with yellow lava in clear liquid. I also have a nice glitter light (since 1973) that still works, … and everyone that sees it wants to buy it, (NEVER!), as well as several other cool light effect lamps. I guess I’m still a hippie at heart even after forty years. (You should see my Melanie LP collection!) Peace! LOL!

I really like how you positioned the lamp to the left side and the rest of is pitch black. Very nice. I think this lamp would look fantastic on my table :::puppy dog eyes:::

Dennis, good for you on getting a lava lamp. It's never too late. This one's quite a beauty, huh? Mine is green. And I was just like you -- wanted it for years. (I'm the guy who finally got himself a Nehru jacket, about a week AFTER they went out of style, I discovered to my chagrin. Oh, and a medallion, too.)

Good picture; like the negative space!
