Jude, I purposely cropped the one piece partially off the edge because I thought the bunch by itself was a little too bland. I think you may be right, tho'; it's probably more of a distraction than an interest addition.
As for the black, ordinarily I would have shot this on a black board, but I didn't have my paraphenalia handy, so it was shot on a brownish tabletop. Selection was actually pretty easy. I did a select by color, adding the white, orange, and yellow (and lots of little variations) into the selection mix. (The tabletop was to varigated in color to select the background instead.) Then I moved in close to clean up a few of the rough edges (w/ lasso and quickmask) and copied the selection to a new layer and added a new, black layer below it. Last, I did a little soft-edged brush erasing of some remaining ragged edges. Not nearly as big a deal as this explanation makes it sound.
Well I'd set the candy corn on a piece of black coreboard myself..LOL
Great vibrant colors and the black really brings that out. The one just going off the frame is kind of distracting, though. Needs eating :D
