Recently my wife and I visited one of coastal South Carolina's old rice plantations. In many ways it was like a trip back in time, to simpler days and slower ways. Within 200 yards of our guest house hung this swing, suspended from a limb of a live oak that must have been 150 years old. The swing sang a quiet siren song to "sit a spell" and gaze out over the marsh to the Black River.
