Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, was almost wiped out by the wind and flood waters of Hurricane Katrina. All homes and businesses were damaged and most were destroyed.

I was in Bay St. Louis the week after the Hurricane to help my wife's parents clean up (their's was one of only five houses on Beach Boulevard left still habitable). While the innumerable photos of destroyed buildings and bridges tell a lot of the story, the most indellible impression I took away from all of the destruction was photographs like these strewn all over the beach. I wanted to return the photos to the people, but didn't know who they belonged to, where they lived, and whether they were even still alive. Thanks for capturing this image.
