Yala N.P. June 2003

Yala National Park is definitely growing on me and with each trip I am finding that there is more to see. This two-day trip in June showed elephants in record numbers. I saw at least 50 elephants. More species of birds and animals - two sightings of bears and one sighting of a leopard. Along with the pictures I am including a small commentary on the scene and the camera settings.

hi there,
The bird mentioned as booted-eagle in page 2 of ur gallery is in fact a juvenile Grey-headed fishing eagle (Ichthyophaga ichthyaetus)and not a booted eagle.Pls. correct it.

Dear Jeeweka and Albert Noorlander. Thank you for your observation and correction. I agree that this is a Changable Hawk-Eagle or Crested Hawk-Eagle, i.e. Spizaetus. Cirrhatus. Picture now corrected. Rgds, Dave Behrens

Its not a serpant eagle, its a changable crested hawk eagle. - Jeewaka from Yala East Park

Nice pictures. The crested serpent eagle on page two of your Sri Lanka trip is definitely not a serpent eagle. I guess it is a hawk eagle species. I don't know which one, as I'm not familiar with the birds of Sri Lanka. The crested serpent eagle can easily be recognised by it's unfeathered yellow lores.

GOOD!it has been far to long since you last updated the site and i aswell as others i am sure are pleased with the new arrivals, keep up the work and look forward to the next set of photographs ;)
