I was heartbroken to see that the former icon of
Victorian life (and my favorite university haunt)
had been torn down. It was such a surprise that
in Victoria, formerly so conscious of its heritage,
would allow such a stalwart icon to be demolished
and replaced by a rather ugly, vain and shallow
echo of what was once there.
Someone asked me what was the best and worse moment
of the trip. Beyond a doubt, seeing that the hotel
had been demolished was the worst.
It used to reside where that squat ugly building
is on the right of the image.
