While the residential areas to the north of the river have always been relatively up market, the
southern bank of the river was traditionally industrial, handy for factories who once saw the river
as a suitable place to dump all manner of dangerous waste. Over the last 50 years there has been a
revolution in environmental law making. Most inefficient manufacturing has been closed down in favour
of Asian importation. Sheer real estate greed has seen the vast bulk of industry removed from the
river and with major soil clean ups, the old land has been given over to expensive housing
developments. This area around Breakfast Point is a case in point.
