Here's a small bit of an Australian ten dollar note. The face depicted is A.B.(Banjo) Paterson
who wrote narrative poetry about rural folklore. Motifs on the note allude to his most famous
work, "The Man From Snowy River". Like all Australian banknotes, they are made of a "polymer"
substance developed by the Reserve Bank of Australia in co-operation with the C.S.I.R.O. Initially
issued in 1988, they are reputed to be the first successful non paper legal tender banknotes
anywhere in the world.
