... and so, my friends, I return to the REAL purpose for which photography was invented - shooting
bottles of scotch. A considerate friend has purchased for me a bottle of Jura single malt. Now this
is a label I had never seen before - me being an ignorant Aussie. But I am quite confident that Bill
Miller would be able to tell me all about it. Evidently Jura is an island off the coast whose local
distillery ran foul of the "revenuers" a long time ago. In the mid twentieth century (when all good
drinking folk presumably came at last to their senses) the Jura whisky operation got started again.
It appears that Orwell may have written "1984" under the influence of this remarkable stuff during a
working stay on the island. It reminds me a little of Cardhu which (let me assure you ) is no small
praise.
