When I was a small boy I became fascinated by Cunard's two great "Queen" liners - the Queen
Elizabeth and the Queen Mary. These days of course there's a NEW and still BIGGER Queen Elizabeth
and a NEW, bigger Queen Mary (Queen Mary 2). BOTH of these great ships visited Sydney Harbour
today AT THE SAME TIME. I simply HAD to go and take a look. Here is the 90,900 ton/964 feet Queen
Elizabeth at the Overseas Terminal at Circular Quay. Incredibly this vessel is the SMALLER of the
two ships. The Queen Mary 2, which is at Garden Island, is more than HALF AS MASSIVE AGAIN
i.e. 151,000 tons. Stay tuned for pictures of THAT THING!!

Shipping facilities in Sydney Harbour were conceived before liners of such size were ever
contemplated. The QE looks somewhat out of scale with its surroundings but I am given to understand
that these vessels can still pass under the bridge if ever there was a need.

One of my dreams since childhood, too. Quite dwarfing!! Would never imagine it squashing under the bridge, and that would be a sight to see. More, please. V

She's a real beauty David!!! And yes, she does look out of scale against the bridge. Love this image ~ the B&W adds to it as well! BV
Looking forward to seeing more piccies of both ships! :)
