The majority of these bird shots were taken with a 600 mm f4 lens mounted on a heavy tripod. Even with this reach, best results were always achieved by getting close to the subject and where possible, locking up the camera's mirror before exposure to minimize vibration and preserve detail. Minimum focussing distance with the 600 is about 20'.
