miniature look created by using fake depth of field

By creating simple gradient ramps and selections and using Photoshop's lens blur filter you can create a very interesting miniature look. The shallow DOF suggest our mind it is a miniature shot at very close distance thus the shallow focus. Its a great example how your eye and mind is conditioned.

Thanks for the answer David. I do wonder about some aspects of photography that I just simply have not had the time to explore as of yet. For all of my messing around in, originally, the darkroom, and then in PS, I still am quite habitual in many aspects of my work.

thanks Dunca, the reason why is actually very simple. Its an interesting effect, nothing more, nothing less. I really like the paradox of knowing its a large scene but yet your perceptions can be fooled to create a miniature look in our mind.
