Route 66 - The Mother Road

Go ahead - stay home. Sit on your couch and watch the drivel on your television. Limp along in the slow lane of your life. Or grab your photo gear and your sense of adventure, bring along a road map, and travel to a remote stretch of deserted highway. Prepare to lose yourself in a land of weathered cultural icons left behind by those who, once upon a time, carried on a love affair with desert.

Your pictures are great momentoes for those of us who only rely on memory for recollections of a Mojave trip down Rt 66. I will treasure your pictures to enhance my memories. Today I went to Amboy to find Roy's closed up; sadly they may be going out of business. I hope you can still stay there on your upcoming trip, or at least still use Amboy as your subject. It would be fun to join you sometime, but you would have to give a beginner's class.

This is a very enjoyable gallery. Each image is strong and well composed, many with interesting colors, details, and textures. Hard to pick a favorite here.

Together with its twin sister, this gallery strongly evokes how it must fell like to be on those stretches of mythical route 66.
I wish you had a general view photo of the old Amboy school. Abandoned elementary schools touch a soft spot with me like few other things...Go figure why...
The whole feeling of the galleries is very much in pace with Percy Adlon's little gem film (actually originally named "Out of Rosenheim"). As in the movie, one can also feel the effect the desert must have on people even if it is often portrayed here in an indirect way, through the depiction of little beautiful details from inanimate objects.
I loved the overall tone and, especially, one photo in particular: “Love Birds”
