Immigration Rally in Hollywood, June 24th 2007

AnswerLA organised a rally to protest the plight of millions of illegal immigrants living in this country. In attendance was William Bratton, LAPD Chief. A similiar rally in MacArthur Park on May 1st ended with the riot squad

moving in to disperse the crowd, after a number of demonstrators began blocking the streets, an action which was expressly prohibited by the rally permit. While acting to disperse the crowd, the LAPD fired 146 rubber bullets.

27 marchers and 9 members of the news media were injured, and 5 people were arrested. Chief William Bratton swiftly announced that an investigation was underway to determine if the use of police force was appropriate.

Many were outraged at the use of police force on May 1st, and coming just 6 weeks later, this rally in Hollywood was an important event for the LAPD.

Amazing! Funny thing is most of us in this country are immigrants or decendants. My great grandfather was shanghied out of Sweden at the age of 13. My grandmother was Irish/Scot the result of the king of England taking over part of Ireland and claiming it for Britain and Scotland....then you know the stoy of the whole potato famin thing. So my grandparents, both came into the country through the Statue of Liberty, met in New York...my dad said the Irish and the Swedes didn't even get along as a whole...and here Iam. Immigration? We need to embrace it. Geez the stuff people desperately do to get here, on boats and in storage containers. You gotta love them for what we take for granted.
