Hopefully, but nothing planned at this time. The family Mallorca trip is going ahead next week, but I'll be staying at home for on-going hospital treatment. Maybe September!

Are you headed to the islands in 2014?
ChrisM 14-Jun-2013 13:07
Hi Dave,
Really enjoyed your pictures. I spent several extended visits on Formentera during the early seventies. We camped in one of the gullies just beyond Es Calo toward La Mola. In those days Es Calo had about 4 or 5 buildings only. Formentera was little known. We found out about it from another traveller and decided to go out on the overnight boat from Barcelona to Ibiza then to Formentera. The Guardia Seville were in charge in those days and had very definite ways of letting you know what they wanted you to do. The island is a paradise. In the morning I'd rise and go to the bar at Es Calo for coffee, buy something to eat for lunch and then head over to the other side of the island to the beach for the day, come back at night, have a little dinner, then return to the bar for a beer and watch the spectacular sunsets. Met many interesting characters American cardsharks and Scots Professors and English Poets. We played Whist at the Es Calo bar. On my last visit I was stung by something in the sea on the beach and had to hobble back to Valencia to hold up in a pension for the week until the swelling went down. Thank you for your pictures they bring back incredible memories. I'd like to get copies of a few if that is at all possible. Many thanks! Chris

If you have one day on the island with a bike, Illetes and Migjorn are a nice flat ride. You could also think about visiting Es Calo and Cala Saona, both are beautiful and some of my favourites. If you get to Es Calo and feel REALLY energetic, the ride/walk up La Mola to El Pilar, and the lighthouse at Faro De La Mola will leave lasting memories. Alternatively if you get to Cala Saona, it is a flatter ride out to Cap de Barbaria, with its cave.
You might just prefer to find a quiet sandy spot somewhere along Migjorn, and enjoy Formentera as nature intended.
Have a great day!

Hi Dave. I will be on Formentera in May. Just for one day :( with a bike :) Based on ur pictures, I definitely want to see les illetas and migjorn. Are they the most beautiful or would u suggest something else? Thanks. Valerie

Hi Dave. I love Formentera and have been about 15 times now. Having trouble finding a UK tour operator that goes to Cala Saona. Thompson used to do it but it's not in their 2013 brochure. Any ideas?

Keep the pics coming, they bring back fantastic memories

Hi James, thanks for your comment.

I'm planning to go to Formentera this year in mid-June and mid-September, so not too long now. Hopefully there will be some new pictures from these trips.

Regards, Dave.

Julie, Thomson have packaged holidays to Formentera that include hotel, flights, ferries and transfers at around £600-£800 per person in mid-June. If you want to DIY, the flights, ferries & taxis are likely to cost around £300 per person. There are some reasonable hotel/hostals on the island - you might find something suitable athttp://sebasfe.eresmas.net/hotels1.htm . Although this list is circa 2006, it does include most of the available accomodation.

Any advice on where to stay in Formentera at the beginning of June.I'm planning a quiet holiday with my husband and would like to explore the island and of course find an affordable, clean hotel. We had a look at few websites but accommodation seems quite expensive ...£100 a day.....is that the case?
Guest 22-Aug-2011 20:54
you need to look at the recent results of a search for formentera on https://picasaweb.google.com. Your pictures have been copied wholesale.

Good luck.

Hi Dave wonderful pics... We visited the island several times as a day-trip during our Ibiza holidays... Now next week we will stay 10 days in a row (for the first time) on formentera !!!! What is in your opinion the best Nude beach for couples (<35 yrs)... ( and no real swingers beach on the island ? )
Thanks for the beautiful pics again !!!
john 23-Jun-2011 15:46
Any suggestions for a secluded area of beach? Last year I went in September and it was great. This year I go in mid August and I am a little concerned about so many people. Any info will be very helpful. John North Carolina

This year we visted Formnentera for the fist time and so far it was the best holiday we ever done. For sure next year our holiday will be again in this lovely Island and I hope that it will be longer.

I was first introduced to Formentera in October 2002 - Es Pujols - and fell in love with the island. I have been back every year since, and hope I'm lucky enough to carry on doing so until the day I die! I did try June one year, but it was too busy and the sea too cold. Late September is my favourite time, when the sea is lovely and warm and the island much more quiet. I will be there again in 10 days time! Counting down! Your galleries on Formentera are amazing, so addictive, just like the island and I'd like to thank you for sharing your experiences, it gave me goospimples and I can't wait to be there again. I could talk all day about Formentera! P.S. The lizards like chips also!

Just back from our annual 2 week visit to Formentera, still managed to find quiet beaches to totally chill, I don't think Formentera will ever loose its attraction and already I am planning next years trip. The people were still wonderful and friendly, I learnt a little Spanish maybe that helped, but everywhere we went (by bicycle I might add) we were greeted as old friends and had yet another truely wonderful holiday and each year we manage to find new places to wonder at.
Guest 09-Sep-2008 20:06
Briliant pics Dave. We went to Formentera (Club Mar y Land) back in 87 and loved it. Don't know why we never went back. But your pics brought back some fond memories. Sorry to see it has changed so much that you're thinking of somewhere else. Perhaps we might get back there one last time.

i havn't been back for a couple of years but sad to read your comments and the views of others....not sure i want to return ! theres a limit to the number of italians on scooters that can be put up with !...also beaches seemed to be full of people showing off their designer swimwear....if you've spent a fortune on your bikini you are hardly likely to take it off at the beach !
RS59 15-Jul-2008 21:36
Sorry to hear that following your June 08 visit you found the island had lost some of its attraction. I went a couple of years ago and felt that it was on the cusp. Southern Crete might be an alternative. I have just got back from Lentas which has an attractive laid back style. You can get an idea of beach life from Captain Barefoot's website.
ADW 12-Jun-2008 16:12
Your pics are a better guide than all that I found in researching Spain's beaches for a long awaited vacation. Thanks.

seven weeks ?????!!!!!!!!!!!.........you lucky so and so !!!!!
Anthony 09-Sep-2006 14:04
Just returned after spending 7 weeks on the island. Your photos keep the memories fresh. Depending on the wind direction we split our time between Es Cavall and Lavant. Only complaint is the increasing number of cars and the sad decline in the number of bicycles.

We have been to Formentera for the past ten years or so, we try other places but always need at least one holiday there to unwind and chill...
Your photographs are fantastic and really capture the beauty of the island.
Thank you for cheering us up as we wait our next visit in August.

Nobody has equalled your outstanding pictures of Formentera. I've tried (September 2004 and 2005) and mine don't come within a mile. You can almost the feel the sun on your back with yours, and the sand between your toes! I keep a link to your gallery on my computer so that when I'm feeling a bit low during the long, dark and dreary winter months in the UK, I can cheer myself up with these brilliant scenes. Keep visiting Formentera and let's have more....
Shaun 30-Aug-2005 18:38
I'm off to Formentera at the beginning of October.Only done day trips previously but wanted a week to chill. Staying at the Talaya. Pictures gave me something more to look forward to.

Hi and thanks for posting your pictures. My wife and I went to Ibiza in June 2005 and on an excursion we discovered S'Epalamdor. We are returning for another week in Sept 2005 just to take that trip again and spend a few more hours on Formentera and S'Epalmador.
Graham 04-Jul-2005 20:39
hi
I'e just come back from a fortnight on Formentera....the 2 weeks after your visit.Beautiful island and the beaches are terrific.Have you been on Voga Mari beach? Can't see any pics of it.Also surprised you have no pics of the evening market on the waterfront at Es Pujols...worth it for the posers who stroll up and down !! Went to Espalmador 3 times!!Well worth the trip. Found a beach to myself all day...get off Pepes boat turn right and keep walking round the edge of the dunes for 10 minutes and you come to it.Also very easy to sunbathe and swim nude almost anywhere on Formentera.Very impressed with your pics...hope you have more of your trip to post soon.

Fantastic pictures, did you use a SLR camera or a digital camera to take them?
I am going to Formentera in July, I stumbled across your site whilst researching and your pictures and they remind me of some of the pictures on the Astbury site.
Es Cavall Beach - where is this exactly, is it on the stretch of Migjorn beach?
I too have taken some pictures of various things, you may find them interesting. Similar theme's. I dont have a digi camera, just an automatic SLR.

Great photo's Dave !! There seem to be so few decent photo's of Formentera on the Web.
Can't wait to visit!

Dave, I love Formentera and youre pictures are amazing. This guest book should be full of praise. There used to be a couple of great sites on Formentera, but one of the best ones had to close. When I was there in 2002 I was to busy enjoying the beaches etc and didnt take too many pictures. Outstanding !! Keep toping it up, I hope I get to visit again !!
