After many years of enjoyment taking photos in many different locations, I thought it was time to share some of them with others. I`ve seen many changes during my many years in the hobby, from negative film with home processing spending hours on end tucked away in the darkroom breathing in toxic fumes to sitting for hours in front of my computer processing my images. Would I go back the old darkroom days? No! Would I advise young people just starting out in photography to start with film the way I and many others did? Yes! there is nothing like going through the darkroom process only to find that you have made a mistake in exposure or composition. You learn very quickly that way and when the time is right to move onto digital you should have a reasonable grip on exposure and composition plus what actually makes a decent photograph. Modern digital cameras have at last come of age and with the added ability to fine tune images whilst still in the location simply can`t be beaten. Once you have purchased your digital equipment the running costs are minimal and I would advise newbies to select their film camera equipment with some thought for the future when they intend to move onto digital. For instance , you can buy a used film camera from the likes of Canon or Nikon for very few pounds and build up a collection of lenses that can be used on the digital camera as you move up. Probably one of the best cameras to go for is something like a Canon EOS camera because the Eos lens mount is still used to this day. I must give credit to my wife for the many long suffering hours that she has sat in the car after I`ve noticed what could be a decent shot, or spent hours trudging up hill and down dale to get to a remote spot far from the beaten track. She has learnt to take a book with her when ever we venture out, just incase:-0 Good luck to all the young photographers just starting out who have a life time of enjoyment ahead of them. I`ve spent many years looking for that ultimate image that still eludes me but have had hours of enjoyment being out amongst nature searching for it. Dave Chilvers CLICK ON IMAGES FOR LARGER VIEW
