Our earliest known Robertson ancestor (and my brick wall) is Roysden born Sept. 20, 1829 and died Oct. 30, 1909. According to a letter in his military file, he indicated he was born in McMinn County, TN. He fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War having served as Capt. of Co.D 84th Infantry and Co. H 28th Infantry when it was consolidated. I first find reference to him in the 1850 census for White County TN District 11, which shows Mary Robinson, age 48, with children: Risen age 21, Judy Ann age 19, Evaline age 17 and Stephen age 16. No father is listed. Roysden was first married to Mary (Bohannon, I believe) with three children resulting: Sarah, Alexander Martin (or Martin Alexander) and Elzada. His second marriage was to Alcy Hildreth - children resulting are: Alvin T., Amanda Ann, L.E. (Lola), Sherman Hendrix, Lucinda, Haywood Clifton, Tyre Vilander (my husband's grandfather), Lillie Maude, Roysdon (died as a baby), Ray L., Carrie (died as a baby), and James R. His third marriage was to Mollie Lewis Smith - no children. Roysden lived in the Putnam/White county area (the borders were always changing), I believe in or near Sparta, TN, where he died. He is buried in France cemetery, located on Hwy 84 between Sparta and Monterey. Alcy and several children are also buried there. I have been unable to find out the identity of Roysden's parents/grandparents, but have always suspected a relationship to the Roysden Robersons who left TN for Maries County, MO and perhaps also to James Roberson and Mary Fuqua. An elderly aunt said and as would be expected, the family has branched out to other states, such as, Texas and Oklahoma. We are in Arkansas.
