In 2009, I had the opportunity to visit Hadrian's wall. The weather was absolutely appaling (but exactly as forecast) and the entire time was spent dodging rain and waiting for light.
The wall is everything I imagined it would be as it snakes along the crags and ridges all the way to the horizon. These pictures are from a short 3-mile section between Steel Rigg and Housesteads Fort that holds some of the best preserved sections of the 2000 year old wall.
Traversing the wall can be hard work. The best scenes are miles away from the nearest access point and the terrain can be hard going as it follows the contours of the lanscape.
It's a pity they never finished building it, they've not even started the rendering (did they have Polish builders back then?).
I lived in Northumberland for many years when I was young and the weather is never really what you could call good......fantastic photos though, love the sky on XG9M15008.
