Pennsic War 34

This is a collection of images taken at Pennsic War 34, an event sponsored by SCA, Inc. Since I first started taking photos of this annual event two years ago I have seemingly found my niche as a “chronicler” of the events that occur there. While my role is very “unofficial” I am both surprised and honored by the degree of popularity my work is received.

Being such a large event, with nearly 12,000 in attendance, and having such a wide variety of events, cultures and spectacle I know I will never get bored of shooting there. My aim is to choose something different to focus on every year and try to capture everything in a gradual manner. In other words, the galleries I currently have online illustrate only a fraction of what one might find at Pennsic!

So please, take your time to browse and leave as many comments as you would like. In fact, I highly request that people do so. If you see a photo and know what is going on in it, please feel free to leave a comment. If you see something and what to know more, also please leave a comment.

Wow. Last time I made
you could make every campfire over the (only) 4 day weekend. A few years seemed to have slipped by while I played Vol Fireman, dad, and such, I have got to make it there again. These pictures are inspired.

I can not express my gratitude for your time and effort. As I spend most of my time on the Youth field I want to thank you for the great shots of the Youth field. You captured the youth fighters and showed how much work they put in and how much they enjoy being part of the battle. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. It is especially interesting for me because in your woods photos you also captured some of our alumni Youth fighters. Now the younger ones can see the pictures of the older ones in action.

These photos are absolutely amazing...and more evidence as to why I need to save up more vacation time at work to make it to Pennsic. I especially love the nighttime photos Around Pennsic and the idea you had for shooting Pennsic XXXIV's Blue Feather Ball. [[Which, I must add, Baron Jose was looking fabulous for once again.]] Thank you so much for sharing your gift with the rest of the Known World. I for one am very grateful for the time and effort that Darter has put into our hobby. I have watched him develop from a sideline shutterbug, into a combat ready action photographer in the woods battle this year. His pictures seem to capture the moment. The quality of product that he makes available at no charge to the public always amazes me. I, who know nothing about photography, am sure that it is a financial burden on him. Darter has been there annually for us, since his beginnings and has never asked for a dime for his time. Be patient; appreciate the man’s efforts instead of badgering him about time frames and deadlines. Also I would like to personally thank Darter for covering the Tuchux Tournament this year, as always top-notch imagery.
