As I returned from buying cat food I realized just how beautiful the full moon was tonight. With clouds from an approaching front scuttling across the sky I was determined to capture this Beaver Moon. Grabbing my tripod I drove around the neighborhood looking for an angle. I finally just snuck into the graveyard and used a tree to off set the moon.
As to why it’s called the Beaver Moon, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, “This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.”
