Flavia zortea. Wow what a great inspiration during my time at aip! She was one of thosecinstructors who taught from the heart made you paint from the heart take your head out of the work. I often thought she may be crazy, and because I tuned into her "ways" I sometimes questioned my own sanity. I love her, the passion, the heart, the soul. She made me a better artist. Hi Flavia, you were a wonderful teacher. Every time I come into contact with somebody from AIP the conversation always comes to- "Did you have Flavia?- How awesome was she to have as a teacher!!". I think there are many of us who think of you often. I hope you are well. Flavia has passed the veil to the otherside a few years ago. It was published in an AIP Alumni newsletter. She was a great person and a great instructor. She remembered most all her students.

Dear Flavia, I,ve been thinking of you alot. I am now 53 yrs old and had you as my painting instructor at AIP longer ago than I care to remember. Life or the wrong choices took me away from what should have been my work. Guess what, I get what you meant when you told me that I was a researcher, and would never be happy otherwise. Dear Flavia, I have long since wondered where you were and how to reach out to you. I recently came across this site and thought I would contact you. It has been a while since we were in touch and would love to hear how you are. I find myself these days in the classroom more and more teaching college level Illustration and Graphic Design and think of you often. You had such a powerful impact on my art career and I frequently draw on my experiences with you and the many things you taught me about imagemaking. Dear Flavia, A few years ago when I recieved a letter from the Art Institute stating that you were retiring, I was happy for you and sad for the students who would not get to experience your class. Dearest Flavia-I am so happy i found this site, to again see some of your creations, that are stunning. The last time i saw some of your work was at an "instructors" show around '74. You inspired a terribly shy, kid, in so many ways back there in '73-75 when i had you for drawing and painting. Henry Koerner and you, as so many have mentioned were 2 of my favorite 3 life instructors--the 3rd would be Mr. O'Donovan who taught Typography then. Thank you for planting the seeds of expression, & artistic passion, and teaching me how to "become" what i am drawing or painting! You pushed us to a higher awareness of everything we would create and capture in this world! Good health and many thanks to you for many golden days at AIP!! Donna

Dear Flavia, I've thought of you often over the last 33 years! The 2 instructors ("GUIDERS") from AIP that are fond in my memory are YOU and Henry Koerner. I was at AIP 1975 -76. You will not remember me but I will always remember how your painting class and wisdoms influenced my life. All the "children" you helped to guide into decent human beings - immeasurable! Thank You!

ms zortea im sure that you dont remember me but i'll never forget you. as an architecture major at carnegie mellon in the early 70's you showed me how to see and express myself unlike any other instuctor. im pleased to see that so many others have been blessed by your words.

Flavia my Muse - You have been such a force in my life and you don't even know it. Like so many that have posted messages here I am an AIP grad (1995). You taught me so much about art, critique and passion for creativity. But you also taught me that how to deal with the slugs in life by saying "some of the students tuition goes to pay the light bill around here, but yours pays for your knowledge and education". I've carried that little droplet of wisdom with me through life. It has helped me to cope with co-workers etc... It's GREAT to see your work!!!

Flavia, When I attended the art institute 93-96 , there was a comon saying "Flavia Zotea, you either Hate her or love her. I chose that Latter. You were and are one of the most prominate figures in my life. You and you alone made the ridiculus dept I am in from AIP worth every penny of it. There are so many things I learned from you that I apply to life on a daily basis. I am so excited to see your work showcased.

Flavia, it is great that you are moving on to pursue your dreams. I only have sympathy though for the many art students who will NOT get to be influenced and NURTURED by you in the future at AIP. In the short time that I spent "under your guidence", I learned more and grew as an artist in ways that I had never dreamed of. You taught me to open up my entire way of thinking, allowing my creativity to flourish. I believe this to be one of the most important lessons that I ever learned while attending AIP from '91-'93. You are a SUCCESS; I can't even begin to think of how many artists and careers who have influenced over the years. You have been an absolute BLESSING to those of us that have been fortunate enough to be able to call you Teacher/Friend!!!!! Awful for the fact that the teaching by the greatest influence I've ever known, (And influences of my own,Contagious Humming =) 96' Grad) Will end. But new great times shall arise. Flavia Just saw an article on you in the AIP newsletter, so I googled your name. You were my painting teacher in 1975 and I just want to thank you for being a wonderful influence in my life. I have a cab driver who takes me up to my so called "art job" (too many computers ughggh!) in the graphics dept. of WPXI-TV, who also gives you rides (he asked if I knew you since I'd gone to AIP). I don't expect you to remember me- I was just another kid you nutured- and as I'm sure so many of your past students would now like to tell you how lucky we were to have you as a teacher! Sue

Dear Flavia, In searching for your name on the web, I stubled across this website... I was hoping to get in touch with you! I'm assuming I have the right Flavia, as your work looks familiar. I am still playing the cello all the time, hoping to audition for the Peabody Conservatory in early November. Its coming up quickly, and I've been practicing alot!
