Entry to the Mulu area of the Webster System is sporadic at best. Sealed shut by high water nearly four out of every five years, it is seldom explorable. During a recent semi-drought in Kentucky, cavers were able to gain entry to this spectacular extension. Here Ben Hutchins carefully negotiates the entrance to the sumped passage. Extending for over 75 feet, the ceiling lowering to within two inches of the water, it requires calm nerves!
