Cardiocrinum

This is Cardiocrinum cathayanum blooming after two years in our garden with eight flowers all of which appear to have set seed. Dan Weil took the photos. Jim Dronenburg grew the plant.

In my garden in Holland the C.c is flowering now.7 ft hgh and 31 flowers.
The C. gianteums flower 3-4 weeks later .8-June-2008

By far the most dramatic event in my garden this year, C.c. rose 10ft and produced 27 blooms! So far (October 10th) there are no bulblettes at the base. If they appear later, when is the best time to lift and seperate them for growing on?

I'm impressed, but you're Zone 7 right? I've not been able to grow cardiocrinum hgere in Zone 5a. Is cathayanum hardier and less finicky about drainage than the usual one we see--giganteum? Anyway. Thanks --Adam
