Hi Daniel, one of my friends who lives in the Philippines was in some of your rugby pictures and emailed them to me. I love your work. I am recently engaged and live in Dallas, Tx. We have not yet set a date for the wedding, but I was just wondering if you have/would consider doing any wedding photography and, if so, what your rates might be. Thanks. Michele

Hey Daniel,

Fun to browse through your galleries. Looks like you are taking tons of pictures. That is one of the main factors that determines a good photographer. It also helps to have good equipment ;-). Keep it up. You have a pretty good eye for composition, and I look forward to having a coffee table book with your name on it within 10 years.

Maybe I will put up my own pbase gallery one of these days...

Although I admin a windows network, I run OS X at home...

Your galleries are fantastics, especially cities photograhied in the night, and people section. COlors and contrast are very wonderful to me eyes. Are you a professional photographe ? Thank and bravo to you :)

Daniel,
Thanks for the kind words on my galleries.
I have just taken a peek at your galleries and I am really impressed.
You have a keen eye for pattern and color and your images are very mature for a “teenager” or any-ager for that matter.
Looking at your images has pushed me a little further into the idea of going digital all the way.
Keep up the good images,
Vince B.

Hi Dan. I was preparing to delete the gallery when I spotted your message. I guess I'll leave it alone.

Sharing my secrets of color is relatively easy. I play with the levels or curves, or I boost the brightness and contrast in Photoshop (usually 8-12 for contrast and half the value for brightness). The color is basically what the G2 records. Occasionally I'll use the saturation tool to give that extra touch of saturation in spots.

Secrets of composition? That is very difficult to share. I guess it's experience more than anything else. I believe the works of great painters have had more infuence on my photography than other photographers. I worked at a museum as a gallery attendant for about a year. Being exposed to those great works of art almost daily had to have some kind of effect on me.

There are a lot of subjects that can make a lot of photographers look good, but look for the ordinary or mundane and try making it look good. Look for the potential "hiding in plain sight". Try different angles or points of view, or different times of the day. The right combination of light and shadow can transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. I don't know if I recommended this to you already, but get a copy of Derek Doeffinger's, "The Art of Seeing". That helped me a lot, too. I hope some of this helps.

Excellent compositions. Very creative indeed, in the right way. You blow those people carrying whatever fancy D1x kinda shit away. I'm inspired really.... I bothered clicking and blowing up the pictures, and that says something. U just made me leave my room, grab my camera and go around shooting. Damn, you are good. Drop by my site, nothing close to yours, but... perhaps, you'll like a couple.

Colorful gallery you have. An abundance of superb shots! The favorites gallery is one of the best on pBase!

Hi Omar,

I am based in the Philippines. Thank you for the kind words. Looking forward to seeing more of your amazing shots.

No, I didn't adjust the saturation to make the red door pop out. This is what they used to call "Sony Reds" that the Sony F707 were known for, along with the "Sony Greens". They're oversturated reds and greens make for unrealistic color that some people loved and other people hated. In the latest camera they put out, the Sony F717, they adjusted these so the pictures are truer to life. I like the "disney" colors of the F707 that's why I rushed to buy it when the F717 came out.

Thanks again for visiting my gallery.

Thanks for leaving nice comments about my gallery. Very flattered to hear it from someone who takes beautiful pictures like you do. I especially like your "Abstract" gallery. Let's see some more. Where are you based? You look like you'be been all over.
tomr-photos 07-Feb-2003 00:08
Someone else mentioned that there were problems at pbase. I hope this works today.

I think you have a good eye for spotting the potential in things people usually pass by. Good photography is about good seeing so keep looking and keep shooting.

Aren't those little G2's great? But . . . I'm curious to see what new DSLR Canon will announce soon (I hope).
