This is my entry into the derby day drink menu. This drink is tart like a margarita should be without that ashtray flavor of tequila. The balance here is good and easy to get. Even though it uses bourbon, all the foreword flavors are citrus and there is a nice little warm feeling at the end. This cocktail is easy to make right, the lime juice does the work for you.
Cheers,
-Dan

The color of this cocktail is what drew me to it. Turns out it was a good find. Crème de Violette is hard to find but worth it. This is a light floral drink that does not taste like a gin and tonic. If you use fresh lemon juice, beware of two things, one make sure it is not too tart and strain as much pulp out as you can. For the drink in the picture I used fresh lemon juice strained twice and still got a small pulp bits and the lemon was very tart. The one I used lemon juice from concentrate, turned out a little better. So play around a bit, once you get the balance right you will know. The gin will almost disappear under the floral flavors. Also, I used Plymouth gin, it is a very smooth English gin. Other gins may be harder to balance.
Cheers,
-Dan
