This is a picture of L'Enfant Plaza on the DC metro. The station is huge. There are another set of tracks and platforms running under these. The picture was taken from a raised walkway that connects the platform to the escalators to the street level. I really like the texture of the ceiling and the perspective. For a handheld shot it is good.

I was stuck a King Street station for a while due to track work waiting on the shuttle to Franconia-Springfield. The sun had just set (magic hour). I was playing with setting to catch trains in motion. The shot was taken at 1/3 of a second and the train was not moving very fast, about 5 miles an hour. The result was great. Good blur on the train and sharp lines. I took a few of these shots. This one I like because you can see the other side of the train.

This is another King Street shot. This is a Masonic lodge on a hill behind the station. It reminded me of Disney Land’s castle at night.

Another train shot. I wanted to get the people moving in and out of the train, but none of those came out well.

Yet another train shot. In this one I was trying to catch the lights in the back of the train and people on the platform. While not precisely the shot I wanted, I am very happy with this one.

This is the Washington Monument. It took a while to walk around the mall and for most of it I was in view of this obelisk. When I got to it, I was looking for a way to take a good picture of it. This was me playing around. There are to of these shots in the set. I really like the color in this one.

I hate mid-day lighting and white buildings. Good pictures in these cases elude me. Therefore, I took these photos and played with them in Photoshop in black and white. The mid tones are tweaked to put the sky as grey, the building white and the trees black. I would not say I loved this shot, but hey I am in DC.

This is a wider version of the last shot. I liked the reflection of the building. I just could not get anything interesting out of the color shot.

This is one of a set of statue in front of the capital. I was able to get some color and contrast out of them with the lighting. My thought was to play more with black and white, but the contrast between the sky and metal was not enough to keep the stature from blending into the sky. I not really fond of this shot, but it gives an idea of what the whole statue looked like.

This is the other side of the same statue. I liked the lighting on these much better. The subject is much more dramatic as well. I upped the contrast in Photoshop to deepen the shadows.

I really like the dark and dramatic feeling of this one. The color just was not there. I upped the contrast and the mid-tones in Photoshop

I really thought this was would have made a good black and white. It has the problem of the green of the statue blend to much with the sky. The light was just too strong still. I should have waited another two hours.
