Printemps dans la Bastide.

(Cordes-Sur-Ciel - 3.)

Corde-sur-Ciel is a « bastide village ».The bastides villages were created in the second part of the Middle Ages in the south-west of France. This new type of city was necessary because of the increase in population and the exceptional urban development that spread at that time throughout Western Europe. Finally also by the will of the people to free themselves from the secular and religious powers.

Thus between 1222 and 1373 three to five hundred bastides were founded.

These foundations all meet some key characteristics:

1/ The Granting to a group of families of a land by a secular or religious Overlord officialized by the signing of a charter that sets out the rights and duties of future inhabitants.
2/ An innovative construction plan still unrealized at the time in Europe.
3/A political project based in particular on the equality of the inhabitants, their autonomy for the management of the city and also the reduction of the fiscal and legal weight that the Overlord had.

What interesting history - "innovative" for sure !! Love your shot, the scene appears to have been the same since then. The houses were built to last !! BV
