Dans la Venise médiévale, une arche mystérieuse donne accès à une cour oubliée du temps. Une ancienne légende raconte qu’un jeune chevalier de retour des croisades y fut conduit par un négociant qui lui proposa de l’héberger pour la nuit. La soeur du marchand, qui vivait avec lui, était d’une si troublante beauté que le jeune homme en tomba immédiatement éperdument amoureux.

Dissimulée dans la poignée de son épée le chevalier rapportait de Terre Sainte une relique très précieuse - un morceau de la croix du Christ - destiné au prévôt de Cologne.
Le lendemain matin au réveil il constata que la jeune femme n’était plus à ses côtés, ni son épée, ni bien sûr la relique...

le «noble» marchand et la jolie jeune femme n’étaient pas frère et soeur mais de vulgaires voleurs...

Le heaume et le bouclier sculptés sur l’arche semble rappeler la triste histoire de ce jeune chevalier...



In the medieval part of Venice, a mysterious arc gives access to a yard forgotten by the time. A former legend tells that a young knight returning from the crusades was led to it by a trader who suggested to shelter him for the night. The sister of the trader, who lived with him, was so beautiful than the young man fell desperately in love with her immediately.

Hidden in the handle of his sword the knight brought back from the Holy Land a very precious relic - a piece of the cross of the Christ - intended for the provost of Cologne.

The following morning when he awoke he noticed that the young woman was not any more by his side, either the sword, and of course the relic...

The "noble" trader and the attractive young woman were not brother and sister but a couple of vulgar thieves...

The helmet and the shield sculptured on the arc seems to remind the sad adventure of this young knight...
