Towards the Magical Mountain.


Fin d’après-midi à Shanghaï. Nous sommes installés dans une maison de thé de l’ancien quartier français, nous reposant après une pleine journée de marche et de photographie. La lumière décline lentement sur le bassin à lotus. Des garçons viennent allumer des bougies et des spirales contre les moustiques. Quatre musiciens montent sur une petite scène et entament un morceau de Led Zeppelin. A la fin du morceau le chanteur récite un poème de l’époque Tang puis les musiciens jouent à nouveau Led Zeppelin. Une étrange atmosphère se dégage lorsque entre deux morceaux le chanteur récite à nouveau d’anciennes poésies.

Plus tard nous discutons avec le chanteur. Il nous demande si nous connaissons la Montagne Magique. Comme nous répondons par la négative il nous propose de suivre le groupe, qui doit se produire le lendemain dans une petite ville touristique nichée au coeur des montagnes. Nous acceptons sans savoir que commence alors un étrange voyage....

End of the afternoon in Shanghai. We are sitting in a Tea House of the former French district, resting us after a full day of walking and photography. The light declines slowly on the lotus pond. Waiters come to light candles and spirals against mosquitoes. Four musicians go up on a small stage and start a Led Zeppelin’s song. At the end of the song the singer recites a poem of Tang period then the musicians play again Led Zeppelin. Strange atmosphere when between two pieces the singer recites again old poetries.
Later we discuss with him. He asks us if we know "La Montagne Magique" (in french). As we answer negatively he suggests us to follow the group, which has to play the next day in a tourist town nested at the heart of mountains. We accept without knowing that a strange journey begins then....
