My dad with his mother on the old "home place". My dad's father died while my dad was in high school during the depression. Grandfather built the barn and laid the field stone foundation. There was also a field stone silo.

My father told of a traveling carnival that came around with a wrestling show. They would call for volunteers out of the audience to wrestle their champion. My grandfather volunteered and had their champion raised over his head, ready to throw him out of the ring, when the referee called a stop to it. All that picking rock out of the fields by hand had paid off for my grandfather
