I just saw one of these birds on lake LBJ in Kingsland, Texas. It squawked lightly a few times and then flew away. Beautiful bird. Probably about 12 inches tall. Bright orange legs. Green streaked with grey feathers and a burgundy cape on the neck.

I believe that I have a mother and two of these babies roosting in my tree. The eggs were a baby blue and the mother had a rusty brown front, and kind of blue green legs, very large beak. The babies beak was yellow, also with the same color legs. Is it possible that this is what we have?
