I’ve always found the shape and markings of the Black-necked Stilt to be quite pleasing so it was a real treat to spend some time watching them during a recent visit to Anahuac NWR. It was especially pleasing when this one walked up within a few feet of me. I suspect it was checking me out because it had a nest or chicks somewhere close by. I have found that they get really brave when it comes to keeping their young safe.
