This is the Rio Celeste Waterfall in Tenorio National Park in northern Costa Rica. Conditions weren’t as good as I had hoped but I just can’t pass up such a pretty sight without at least snapping a couple of photos. Yes the water really is that blue. The blue color is caused by the scattering of light by deposits of aluminosilicates on the rocks in the river bed. These aluminosilicates absorb all colors except for blue which means only blue light is reflected back to the viewer.
