White-lored Spinetail

Brazil

www.texastargetbirds.com

Synallaxis albilora

These White-lored Spinetails were challenged us as they darted around in the branches of a wooded area in the Pantanal. It took some effort but we managed a couple of shots of them. I wasn’t totally convinced there were actually white lores on this one but I am pretty sure the ID is correct.

Thanks for the feedback on the ID. I have checked with people in the area and they tell me that Plain-crowned Spinetail is out of range where we photographed this bird and assure me that it is indeed the White-lored Spinetail. From looking at the field guide it also seems to have all of the appropriate field marks for White-lored. The habitat where we found these birds also is a better fit according to the species account.
