Euplectes franciscanus
I started out the day today at Buffalo Run Park in Missouri City, TX to meet some bird photographers and to try to photograph a flock of Northern Red Bishops that have been living in the park. I don’t usually get too excited about introduced species but the company was good and the bishops are nice and colorful so why not give it a try. I must say that not only was the company good but wow did the birds put on a show. Several males were actively displaying for the numerous hens and at one point this crazed male flew up on the vegetation right next to me in pursuit of a potential mate. I actually had to take a few steps back just to be able to focus on him. It was certainly a great morning.
