Ortalis vetula
A bird I always look forward to seeing when I visit the lower Rio Grande Valley is the Plain Chachalaca. Like the name implies the plumage of this bird isn’t particularly showy but I must say that this bird has an attitude that is anything but plain. They are noisy and cause quite a stir when they are in an area and they are just fun to watch. This one was from a rainy morning at Bentsen State Park. After waiting an hour or so for the rain to stop the chachalacas hopped up in the trees and started preening resulting in my favorite shots from the morning.
