Phainoptila melanoxantha
This Black-and-yellow Silky Flycatcher was from the last day of our Costa Rica trip and it was one of many birds I was excited to see that day. We saw several of them moving through the cloud forest eating berries. They definitely didn’t give us many opportunities for photos so I was happy to get this shot. One thing I found interesting about these birds was that they seemed to be completely oblivious to us as they foraged. At one point I had one fly into a bush a few feet away where it stayed for five minutes or so while I tried to get far enough away for a photo. It definitely made me wish I had a zoom lens with me.
