Dave,
Bravo Company (maybe the whole battalion?) was out in the field on Christmas 1967. I remember there was a "truce" yet the powers that be wanted us to go out on "ambush" patrol, but they did not want us to chamber a round! There was a near riot among the troops of third platoon, and when the dust settled, we did not have to go out on patrol. I would have been willing to go if I could have chambered a round first. Earlier that day, we had been fed a really good Christmas meal. I remember it to this day. I was amazed that the cooks could come out to the field and cook a meal that tasted better than any restaurant meal I ever had. Why couldn't they do that back in Lai Khe?
