bernini's sculpture has been described as "colouristic;" it is said he had the ability to give the
viewer the impression of different hues emerging from the variously textured surface of the
monochrome stone he carved. in the same way many of these photos are expressive of colour in its
seeming absence, they are, rather than merely monochrome, its approximation. they are monochromatic.
