:: Butterfly gardening 2006-Present ::
This is our first attempt at this. We had some success with Monarch, Queen, Polydamus, Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Longwing caterpillars that grew into new butterflies. We lost more than a few in 2006 but that's the reality of nature. This year we've constructed some cages to keep the predators away from the eggs and caterpillars and have had great results. Where we had one (or, on a good day, two) Zebra Longwings visiting last year we now commonly see 10-12 at a time. We have released as many as 14 butterflies in a single day.

All photos taken at our homesite in North Fort Myers, FL. The plants are growing in natural conditions in one area near the driveway, the only place on the property where they can be found.
