Tulip Time in Louisiana 2011

UPDATED 03/01/2011 Ok folks, here we go again! The past few weeks have been totally unforgiving where the weather has been concerned. Last year was perfect. We had an extremely cold winter and that is what the bulbs need to develop good root systems. This year, our summer began in February. So, with that said, we have been watering like crazy, shading the bulbs when possible to keep them cool, and they are still going to bloom probably by mid-March. Keep tuned in here for daily updates and images that will be uploaded to let everyone know the tulips are doing. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at cwhilbun@aol.com and I'll be happy to give you a very precise update!!!
UPDATED MARCH 4, 2011 - Thanks to the News Star and to the Franklin Sun for getting the work out about our little project! The weather has finally decided to cooperate, so I don't expect the tulips to begin blooming for another week. I expect peak in a week and a half to two weeks just depending on the temperatures. We don't have the yard exactly cleaned and dressed up yet! So, keep checking back on here for more updates!
UPDATED MARCH 6, 2011 - Okay, cold weather has set in so things are pretty much at a standstill! That's not a bad things as the this will allow the tulips to grow taller especially considering that we got alot of rain yesterday. They need lots of water and cool weather to be gorgeous! So, I am still standing by my prediction of tulips next weekend. It's a much cooler week in store for us through this next week. It's about time!!!
UPDATED MARCH 7, 2011 - I think I was spot on with telling everyone to wait until the weekend of March 12. I think that the tulips will be really pretty then and there will be lots of color!
UPDATED MARCH 9, 2011 - We had extensive rains last night, amounting to nearly four inches! However, there were no winds so it didn't hurt the tulips one bit. They are starting to bloom now, so I do expect full bloom by the weekend!!!
UPDATED MARCH 11, 2011 - This weekend and the next week should be beautiful! Containers are blooming yet, and are lagging about a week behind, but the colors are popping!!!
UPDATED MARCH 13, 2011 - The tulips have been stunning today. I predict that they will continue to be even more pretty throughout the week. However, we have a round of 80 degree weather coming our way and they don't like that! So, you might want to make your way out to see them!
