Southern Plantation Homes on the Mississippi River

While the azaleas and dogwoods are at their peak, I decided to make a quick trip to Natchez, Mississippi, to photograph many of the Southern antebellum homes. Many of these majestic homes survived General Sherman's fiery march throughout the South during the Civil War, when many of the plantation owner's wives offered these homes as headquarters for the Union army. As a good gesture, the Union Army spared these magnificent homes from destruction. They continue to stand in all of their glory for all to visit and enjoy. I was able to photograph Stanton Hall, Dunleith, Melrose Plantation, Rosalie, the Parsonage, and Longwood, the grandest home in America. Longwood's octagonal shape is unique, and although the exterior is complete, the interior is unfinished and remains as it was on the day that the builders abandoned Longwood to join the Confederacy at the start of the Civil War.
