Tallahassee and Live Oak Plantation

After leaving Punta Rassa, Ridgway headed to Tallahassee where he took a number of photos in the January-March 1900 period, either within the city, or at Live Oak Plantation, the home of Dr. Tennent Ronalds. Very shortly after arriving in Tallahassee, Moore purchased a new camera. Up until this point, all of his photos were made with a 4x5 camera which used film. Moore's new camera was a larger 5x7 model that used glass plates. Ridgway used his older camera for a few photos on his first trip to Live Oak Plantation, but after that, everything he took was made with the larger camera. Virtually all of the photos of African-Americans in this gallery were taken at Live Oak Plantation. Photo #0261, "Come and kiss me", is another of the 10 prints that Ridgway exhibited at the Camera Club of New York, members exhibition, May 9 - June 6, 1900. Like Judge Spooner in Faceville, Dr Ronalds was also a fine shot with a gun and quail were quite plentiful at Live Oak. The opportunity to hunt them was certainly not missed. Dr Ronalds appears seated in the back of the hunt wagon in photo #0279 and on the ground leaning against a tree in #0290. Ridgway appears in photo #0319 with two of the dogs and a number of quail.
