Very good shot. Good framing and over all composition. Abstract noticed you placed the bird looking out of the shot. I too think it works well and perhaps even better than if you put it to the right. Your artiiistic vision or because there was something on the left? ;) did well.
Like Aam said, party Bird. Cool mohawk and a cute looking birdy.

composition by-the-books. very nice exposure showing details too. why did you choose to place the bird looking outside the frame though? i like it nonetheless. -Abstract

Here's a link to the Luminous Landscape site explaining the Better Beamer. It's under $40 US so I think I might get one. I should probably first practice using fill flash with my 430EX on birds and wildlife where there is a big dynamic range (I've only been using natural light but that's not been very reliable lately). The "Beamer" gives about twice the distance for flash if I understand how it works. Since the light is so dull this week, it might be a good idea to go to the park and practice using fill flash on the ducks and see how well just that works for me and if I like how that works, invest in the "Beamer". Thanks Carole:-) & glad to see you back Tommy:-) No I haven't done anything to the picy Tommy, maybe it's like the work of the great masters it just gets better over time:-) cough cough. How much is the Better Beamer Carole, Is it mainly for bird picys?

I'm baaaaack. It's better on the second viewing, or did you do something? I'm enjoying the careful balance with tension between the naturalistic bird and the op-art effect of the wires and background. Wonderful interaction of opposing esthetics. -tv

Rod, cute bird! Have you ever tried fill flash on your birds? I was thinking of getting a "Better Beamer Flash Extender" to attach to a flash when using a telephoto lens. Hmmm, I just read it's best used on a 300mm lens or greater, so never mind! :-) CJ

So much for the "rule of thirds".. I like this better for it. Good work with the wires. -tv

If I'm right about the species, the bird is native to Australia:

:-) Thanks all:-) I'm buggered if I know wot it is but I like Kiki's "Ocyphaps lophotes":-) I doubt if this is a native of Capalaba as this was taken 10 miles away from there & Aussie birds are too lazy to fly that far:-)

Love the tuft and the fire in his eye.

Good one Rod. But cut him out and put him on the lower wire looking into the frame. Oops, that would be against the rules, eh? Why do your birds downunder look like they have had a wild night? -- Bruce

Looks like a good shot of a crested pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes). Seems to have engaged its air conditioner - it's all puffed up :)

Nice shot Rod. Is this a Capalaba Wire Grouse? - J.V.
ctfchallenge22-Jan-2008 12:09
Even the wires as per rule of the thirds. Lol this is too much - Debi

I saw this right away and knew it was a Rod capture. Nice with the thirds rule. :)
What kind of bird is it?

Pretty yet strange looking bugger isn't he? Like the comp with the wires Rod- Very well done.
