The Queen Up Close
07-OCT-2007 Ann Chaikin

The Queen Up Close

Rules - Do not crop ears off of animals & Make sure the closest thing in the picture is in focus.
I think this works because it emphasizes her amazing fur and whiskers. And it shows what a queen she really is by her expression.

What rule says the closest thing should be in focus? The eyes should be the sharpest focus. I find that I'm stuck on the mouth, being a bright area amongst dark, which distracts me from the whiskers, which, IMO, are the most interesting part. Qualified. ~ Lonnit

I like this picture Ann. The very shallow DOF really works to brings your eyes into the face. The fact that her paw is below the 1/3 and out of focus just does more to get you to the important parts. Us short focal length people do not get to use this kind of front to back isolation without resorting to macro. John
